Quickie: Emma Stone Inspired Makeup

Since we unfortunately can’t all be Emma Stone, let’s just steal her look with this quick tip to looking like the “Amazing Spider-Man” beauty.

While a liquid lined cat eye often just includes the top lash line, Emma ramped up the glamour by applying a thin line on the bottom as well. Keep the waterline bare though, as to not make the eyes appear smaller. Highlight perfect skin with a barely-there tinted moisturizer and top it off with a rosy-pink gloss to get this Emma Stone look.

Hello, You Smell. XOXO, Your Secret Admirer.

“Ever hold your breath when high-fiving your best friend? Do you find yourself secretly cracking the window in the car? Would you rather take the next elevator than ride with your shirt over your nose? We’ve all had our encounters with a smelly someone. Now, we”ve figured out an extra-odor-nary solution that won’t cause a big stink.”

File this one under “Things That Actually Just Happened” because the above quote comes to us from G.B. Proudfoot’s “Deodorgram” description. Described as “the gift that keeps on giving,” you can finally tell your friend that she needs to smell exponentially better, all while being a sneaky betch who would rather drink full-fat milk than tell her BFF the real reason Justin Bobby broke up with her is because she straight reeks.

For just $10, you can send the gift of hygiene anonymously or as a gift. Because nothing says, “I love you” like a gift wrapped case of lavender deodorant.

Over at The Cut, a kind reader has come up with a lucrative solution as to how we can take the anonymous hygiene-related gift market to the next level:

Sheer genius. I’m gonna start sending anonymous products like it’s my job. Date got food on his face at dinner and didn’t notice? Expect an anonymous napkin delivery in 5-7 days. Coworker walked around all day with broccoli in her teeth? There may or may not be 140 packets of floss waiting on her doorstep tomorrow. Because I am such, a good, friend.

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.

Kate Winslet Ages Like A Boss

As a member of the graduating class of 2012, I’m obviously feeling the pressure of being the oldest I’ve, like, ever been in my life. If you’re in a similar situation, or just feeling blah today, here’s a picture of Kate Winslet in 1996 and a picture of her in 2012 to remind you that no, your beauty doesn’t peak in your twenties. Except for you, Leo.

Just Because You Feel Like Death Doesnt Mean You Have To Look Like Death

Today, I give you a challenge. Despite your hangover and lack of will to live, you will manage to look decent after a rough night out in five minutes, with five products, in five steps. I’m declaring an end to laziness, lateness and the use of oversized sunglasses indoors because you didn’t have time to get your face together. With these five products you can look like you totally care about the state of your life, all while counting down the minutes until you can crawl back into bed.

1. Apply moisturizer to your entire face followed by a primer, which will keep your makeup in place all day. Brush your teeth or do something exciting for 30 seconds while this sets.

2. Using a tinted moisturizer, apply the makeup all over your skin with your (clean!) fingers. The key to keeping your skin looking natural and not cakey is all in the application of foundation. Start at the center of your face where there is the most redness, and work your way out. The most coverage will land around your nose and cheeks and then will gradually fade to the jawline, blending perfectly with your skin. Be sure to always move foundation downwards and never to rub it in circles. By pulling your makeup upwards, you’ll trap it under the fine hairs on your face and this is where foundation gets that caked look.

3. Dab an allover color stick or cream blush on your cheeks and lips.

4. Apply a shimmer brick to your eyelids and across your cheekbones. If you’re feeling ambitious you can use just one color from the brick on your eyes, or just mix all the colors.

5. Swipe on mascara to finish the look.

Ed. Note: This look applies to actual hangovers as well as emotional hangovers aka you stayed up too late watching Season One of Dawson’s Creek writing a term paper. All and all, a great easy daytime look.

Products used: Hourglass Veil Primer, Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer, Nars The Multiple, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, and Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara

A Response To People Magazine’s “World’s Most Beautiful” Issue

People Magazine’s “World’s Most Beautiful” issue hit stands this week, and while we won’t comment on the upset of seeing Beyonce’s face on the cover and not her spawn Blue Ivy Carter’s, we will comment on the another part of the issue: celebrities without makeup.

I can barely contain nor explain my emotions when I see pictures of celebs without makeup. Realistically, we all know how celebrities taint our view of beauty with all their makeup tricks and endless supplies of good lighting. But when we do get the rare opportunity to see them without makeup, I never cease to be amazed at just how different they look. But as Jezebel so perfectly puts it, we are faced with a moral “set up.” If you think they look worse, you’re a terrible person who is most likely putting women back decades. But if you think they look good, then so what? A celeb without makeup is still pretty even without makeup, thus proving that celebrities are very pretty people. Okay?

Personally, I think the difference between “New Girl” star Zooey Dechanel with makeup versus without it’s unwittingly jarring. I think everyone should feel comfortable wearing no makeup but obviously people will notice and make judgements from there. So yes, as a beauty buff I’m dying to hit her with some tinted moisturizer and a swipe of mascara. Does that make me a worse person? Supposedly. Eh, can’t win ‘em all.

What did you think of People’s “World’s Most Beautiful” issue featuring celebrities without makeup?

Drunk Bun Tutorial

Let’s be real…updos are a dangerous game. You’re left either looking like Miss New Jersey 1982 or an extra on Toddlers and Tiaras. Yet when Joey Maalouf of Team Zoe speaks, you listen.

Here’s a fab and easy updo tutorial from BellaSugar for what I like to call the “drunk bun” because it’s easy to do after a few cocktails because it’s messy yet totally chic.

Perks of the drunk bun? You mess up, that’s totally okay because it just adds to the undone look. Cheers to that.

Things That Are An Option: Putting Snail Slime On Your Face

Described as a “happy accident,” Chilean snail farmers discovered that snail slime healed their cuts and scrapes in rapid time and left their skin “smooth and clear.”

So the obvious next step was to bottle it and sell it as face cream. Top Korean beauty brands have begun using this snail slime as an ingredient in face, hand and eye creams and even in masks.

Filled with protein, glycolic acid and elastin, this is some powerful slime. Touting results like diminished acne scars, smaller pores and clearer softer skin, it’s no shock that crazies beauty buffs are all over this stuff.

So is it worth putting snail juice on your face? I wouldn’t know, because this is one beauty trend that I will be sitting out. Would you put snail slime on your face to achieve a flawless face? Comment below!

BRB, Just Saving the Environment.

In honor of me sleeping through Earth Day, I figured I’d do a post on my accidental slip into eco-friendly makeup.

For me, I get overjoyed when my skincare product contains an ingredient with more than 9 syllables, ends with the word “acid” or has the letter “x” in it. If it singes my skin, it must be doing its job.

Yet, in the never-ending quest for the perfect foundation, I came across Josie Maran’s Argan Matchmaker™ Serum Foundaiton. It goes on white (??) but mysteriously changes into the exact shade of your skin to cover blemishes and redness instantly. Obviously this has to be the result of some new Alex Mack-inspired chemical compound or just straight witchcraft. Instead, I was surprised to learn that this product is paraban-free, toxin-free, cruelty-free, made with organic ingredients and contains Argan Oil. For a girl who dreams in sulfur and benzoyl peroxide, this was quite the shock.

Only now, you can’t get me away from Argan Oil. Josie Maran uses it in most her makeup, but you can also just get straight vials of it. Put it on my hair, my face, my dog, EVERYWHERE… because it’s just that good. In a world of chemicals and acid-based products, your skin will love you for this stuff and it’s all natural, baby. And don’t be worried by the word “oil,” because your skin thrives off “good” oils like this one.

Here are some more benefits of adding argan oil to your skincare regimine:

  • Soften dry skin — Argan Oil’s naturally high concentration in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids work to alleviate dry skin and rough patches.
  • Help minimize fine lines — Smooth Argan Oil over skin and under your eyes for intense moisture and to reduce appearance of fine lines.
  • Help heal acne blemishes and scarring — With regular use, Argan Oil is widely reported to heal existing acne blemishes, prevent the occurrence of new breakouts and help reduce scarring.
  • Soften cuticles — Massage a few drops of Argan Oil onto your cuticles to soften and condition.
  • Treat split ends — Rub oil between your hands and smooth through hair to minimize fly-aways and treat split ends.
  • Give skin a fresh, youthful look — Argan Oil easily absorbs into skin to give you a youthful, dewy glow.
  • And it’s safe enough for use on your baby — 100% pure, organic Argan Oil is safe enough to use on your baby’s delicate skin to help treat dryness and soothe redness. You can also smooth over your stomach during pregnancy to help prevent stretch marks.

What are some of your favorite eco-friendly makeup brands?
